WPATH for the Transgender Community

The World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) offers certified Global Education Initiative (GEI) training for healthcare providers to give better care to transgender people, under the global principles, practices, and implementations described in the WPATH Standards of Care (SOC): For the Health of Transexual, Transgender, and Gender-Nonconforming People.

Foundations in Transgender Health involves care providers of all levels, professions, and specialties. It focuses on the importance of an interdisciplinary care-team approach and cross-specialty foundational knowledge. The foundational knowledge concerning gender development; mental health considerations; legal, policy and ethical issues; primary care; preventative health; puberty blockers; hormonal treatment; surgical overviews; and more.

What WPATH Certification Provides

The WPATH Certification signifies a provider 1) is a WPATH member in good standing, 2) completed an additional rigorous educational curriculum specific to the most current Standards of Care, 3) has a working understanding of the multidisciplinary care team, 4) can translate the SOC into practice, 5) completed an extensive 50-hour core competencies-based training program, and 5) is a recognized leader committed to staying at the leading edge of current evidence and consensus in the field through continuing education.

A WPATH certification let's you know CALM Center is a trusted provider of mentail healthy care, coaching, and mentoring to help understand where you were, where you are, and where you will be, as you gain, strengthen, or assert control over your life-story.

WPATH Certification

Criteria of WPATH Certified Providers

  • Be a member of WPATH in good standing for 2 years
  • Be licensed and board certified
  • Complete a minimum of 50 credit hours, in the following:
    • 15 hours of WPATH continuing education
    • Approximately 10 hours in Advanced Coursework
      • Mental Health or Medical Advanced Course
      • Planning & Documenting, or Child & Adolescent Workshop
    • 10 hours of elective core competency coursework outside of WPATH
      • Caregiver – Care Receiver Relationship, Content Knowledge, Interdisciplinary Practice, Professional Responsibility
    • 10 hours of WPATH mentorship
    • 5 hours of continuing education in listening to the voices of the transgender, transsexual and gender non-binary communities
  • Demonstrate knowledge, skill, and accomplishments in transgender health
  • Adhere to current WPATH Standards of Care
  • Comply with WPATH continuing education requirements
  • Pass the certification exam
